In some states, consumers can collect the cans they consume and turn them in for money. Generally between 3 and 5 sense per can, these cans can add up to some real money. Once these cans are turned in, they are recycled. Recycling is when materials such as aluminum, is reused in the production of new materials. Generally the recycled cans are shredded and ground into small pieces. After the cans are reduced to small pieces, the aluminum is then melted in a furnace. Once the aluminum is melted into a molten state , it is then poured into molds. Once in the molds an ingot forms. This means that the metal is returned to block or bar form. Then the blocks are forced through rollers which creates sheets of aluminum. Once the sheets are created, the metal is ready to be formed into its new end form. This process is much easier, time and cost effective than mining oar and creating the metals from the mined material, not to mention better for the environment.
