Arkansas which is abbreviated as AR was given it’s statehood in June of 1836. Referred to as the Natural State the state flower is the Apple Blossom. Little Rock is the state capital and is the largest city with respect to population housing just over 183,000 people. Arkansas is located in the southern region of the United States and the eastern border is defined primarily by the Mississippi River. The state boasts a total population of over 2.8 million people. Arkansas, while not bordering directly on the Gulf of Mexico, is close enough to enjoy a sub-tropical climate. This means that the air is generally humid and that snow is a rare occurrence. The land where Arkansas is today was purchased from the French in the Louisiana Purchase. Current day Arkansas is home to no major sports teams, but is the home of Wal-Mart.
